Look Fantastic Beauty Box: August

Hey Sweeties,

Another post, another apology but if you read this post (here), you’ll know why everything went a bit crazy last week and why I am posting this review a bit later than expected; the September box’s arrival being imminent. Hey ho!

Moving on. The August box is probably my favourite so far as I was beginning to get a bit frustrated with the contents of previous boxes but I think this is always the risk with beauty boxes; while they’re a great opportunity to try new brands, how many new brands do you really need to try, particularly if it’s the same types of products over and over?

August Look Fantastic Box

L-R bottom: bellapierre Cosmetics Shimmer Powder; Alterna Haircare, Caviar CC Cream; Beauty Works 10-in-1 Miracle Spray

L-R top: Eve Lom Cleanser; Rimmel Wonder’Full Wake Me Up Mascara; Omorovicza Budapest Queen of Hungary Mist.

Rimmel Wonder'full Mascara

I was so excited to see this Rimmel Wonder’Full Wake Me Up mascara in the box, the packaging is stunning and it was the first product I tried. Unfortunately, while its not terrible, it’s not the best and certainly nothing that’s going to make me convert from Maybelline’s Lash Sensational mascara as it doesn’t achieve the definition or hold a curl like my current favourite does. I also really dislike the size and shape of the applicator which is most of the problem I think and was the main element that made my heart sink when I opened it for the first time. What is different about this mascara though, is the waft of cucumber you get when you open it and that’s not something I have experienced previously.

I was pleased to see the Eve Lom Summer Ready Complexion Cleanser, although I am unfamiliar with the brand, I enjoy finding new cleansers and this one is (or feels) really oil based and on application, you can really feel it working but it doesn’t -for me- melt off my makeup in the same way The Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Butter does. Again this isn’t a flaw as makeup is still removed, but I am just throwing it out there for a comparison as for me, the one I currently use for that really deep feeling cleanse is hard to beat.

10-in-1 Miracle spray

I have really enjoyed using the two hair products in this month’s box -the Beauty Works 10-in-1 Miracle spray and the Caviar CC Cream but of the two the one from Beauty Works is my favourite as it contains Argan, Linen Seeds and Macadamia oils so my hair feels super nourished after using. The only thing I would say against it though is that it’s not really a spray, there is a pump which you use to dispense product from it into your hand, to then apply into your hair, so you don’t (and can’t) spray as the name and description would suggest. But this genuinely is a minor flaw against all the other perks.

I have yet to try the bellapierre Cosmetics shimmer powder as although it looks gorgeous, it looks very shimmery so not something suitable for the daytime I feel, or at least for work. The Omorovicza Budapest Queen of Hungary Mist is also something I haven’t tried a lot of yet but first impressions are good and something I’ll continue to use and try out.

Have you guys tried anything in this box?

Until next time x

The Glamour Summer Edit Beauty Box

Hey Sweeties,

As I mentioned in last week’s Tuesday post, I have treated myself to the Latest in Beauty Glamour Summer Edit beauty Box. Until recently (winning) a subscription to Look Fantastic, it’s been a while since purchasing a beauty box although I get emailed about them all the time! Sometimes I find that while it’s good to be exploring new brands and products, unless they really are outstanding they just fall to the back of my makeup drawer(s) and clutter unnecessarily. However, from time to time there will be a box that is just too good to miss and this is exactly the case for this box.

Look Fantastic Beauty Box: June

Hey Sweeties,

If you’re anything like me, you tweet, retweet, like and share what seem like hundreds of competitions from brands across social media and for the most part, you hear nothing… and then your email pings and you find out, You Won Something! Yay! In my situation, I have been incredibly lucky to win a 12 month subscription to Look Fantastic beauty boxes, boom!

Love Me Beauty

Hey Sweeties,

So in my efforts to learn more about beauty try new products and learn to write about them, I have subscribed to Love Me Beauty! Subscribers each month get a choice of three menus, each menu contains two full sized products and three sample sized products and once the order has been placed, it arrives a few days later. There are of course other similar subscriptions out there but for now, I am giving Love Me Beauty (LMB) a go.

When I subscribed, I was in time to just make the May box before it (the ‘boutique’) closed, unfortunately though I had some problems logging in so I missed the deadline for me to choose my box so those at LMB chose for me. This is what arrived

May Box

  1. A set of 3 notebooks
  2. Lord & Berry smudge proof waterproof eyeliner #720 Sand
  3. Nail Girls nail varnish in pink
  4. Welda Sea Buckthorn Hand Cream
  5. Welda Sea Buckthorn Body Oil

I can never have enough notebooks and these are the perfect size for any bag, particularly really small, light purses.

The eyeliner is a gorgeous soft brown colour, makes a real change from my long time use of black liner, especially for the summer months when you still want to keep that eye make-up definition but not the heaviness. Although I could smudge it on my hand, I had literally just applied it but once it had set I am pretty sure it won’t be going anywhere. You want to be able to blend it on application but not to react to moisture once you’re on the go.

I haven’t had the opportunity to try the body oil yet but the hand cream is great and has a lovely orangey smell. My only criticism is the packaging looks a bit too clinical, but I can overlook that. I’ll also wait to try the nail varnish once I have removed my current colour.

So far, so good!

I struggled over the menus but I eventually pumped for Menu 1 as I am looking for a new moisturiser and the menu involved a day cream so that is what tipped the vote towards the first option.

Love me Beauty Box

  1. Montagne Jeunesse Brazilian Mud Fabric Masque
  2. Model Co lip gloss in colour ‘Fairy Floss’
  3. Beauty UK eye shadow collection
  4. Urban Veda Neem & Botanics purifying day cream
  5. NYX nail polish Coral Sensation

I love a facemask on a weekend but since discovering the fresh masks from Lush, I am reluctant to ever bother with packet facemasks again… not that they’re not good, it’s just an arse to get all the product out while trying to apply it at the same time. I am not saying I can’t multitask, of course I can but you definitely all know what I mean!

Lip gloss

The lip gloss is lovely and it’s not too sticky but the most impressive aspect is the packaging, what a genius idea putting a mirror on the side!

The eye shadow’s look good quality but they all seem to have a shimmer to them, albeit lighter on some than others. I’m keen to know how I get on with them and hope they don’t make my eyes all puffy.

The day cream feels nice but I need to try it for a few days to really determine my thoughts. What I will say is that it has a smell to it that I can’t quite put my finger on, initially I thought it was like tee tree oil but it isn’t but it has that sort of nostril cleansing aroma to it. I’m not saying it’s not nice, it’s fine but maybe I would prefer something more subtle for a face cream? Hmmm, leave that one with me.

My response to the nail varnish is same as above. But I much prefer this colour to the pink one, this one for me, is a lot more wearable and I really like the bottle.

I’m already looking forward to July…

Until next time x
